There is no step-satellite ladder at The Star — every Championship path is a direct qualifier. You pay $290 or $550 once and play for a seat; there is no cheaper first rung that feeds into a more expensive second one. The satellites are already running — as of 2 September 2026, the pre-festival schedule has been going since Jul 24, so anyone waiting for "satellite season" in September has already missed weeks of qualifiers. The cheapest $290 route closes on Sep 9. Championship qualifiers continue to Sep 25 (after Day 1A has begun), and other satellites run to Sep 28.

The winner's seat: First place in the WPT Australia Championship includes a WPT World Championship seat valued at $15,000 — the organizer's valuation, stated on the official Championship event page (the page gives no currency; AUD is the festival's currency, and WPT lists the World Championship buy-in at US $10,400). Read the official wording carefully — the seat is part of the first-place prize and is deducted from the overall prize pool, not an extra bonus paid on top of the cash. The Star's schedule brochure lists it only as "CHAMPIONSHIP = ticket to WPT World Championship"; the value and the deduction are on the event page, not in the brochure. The Prime Championship winner receives a WPT World Championship Prime seat valued at $1,500 on the same terms. Read the final Tournament Conditions before you assume the headline prize is all cash.
Where all nine tickets go. The festival page advertises nine WPT World Championship tickets up for grabs, which reads like nine seats in the US $10,400 Main Event. The schedule brochure's own legend splits them three ways, and only two of the nine are Main Event tickets:

🪶 The brochure legend prints the Prime badge as "ticket to WPT Prime Championship"; the event conditions call the same seat a WPT World Championship Prime seat. #14 is the Prime Championship and carries the badge itself, so the badge cannot mean its own event.
Two things follow for anyone picking events. The $10K High Roller is the only other door to a Main Event ticket, and the satellite table above shows it has its own AUD $1,050 qualifier on Sep 22. Compare the qualifiers with each other rather than with the buy-ins, though: the Championship runs its own at AUD $290 and $550, so the cheapest way into a field that plays for a Main Event ticket is still the $290 one — note it closes on Sep 9, while the $1,050 High Roller qualifier runs on Sep 22. And the six Prime tickets come off events buying in from AUD $1,150 to $2,000, so a ticket into WPT World Championship week does not require beating the flagship field. 1. You Must Join The Star Club (Free, But Required)
You cannot play a single hand without being a Star Club member. Membership is free, but requires in-person identity verification.
🔴 You also need a verified WPT.com account. Both WPT championship event pages state that "all players are required to have a verified WPT.com account to play World Poker Tour Events." Star Club alone is not enough — set up the WPT.com account before you travel, since it is the one requirement you can finish from home.

2. Smart-Casual Dress Code — Strictly Enforced
The Star Sydney enforces a smart-casual dress code. Turned away at the door means missing your tournament registration window.
Not allowed: singlets, thongs/flip-flops, torn jeans, beachwear, or any sportswear. Smart jeans, collared shirts, and sneakers are fine.

How to Pay for WPT Australia as an International Player
This section is what every competitor's guide skips — and it's what trips up international players the most.
NSW Law: Daily Cash Gaming Limit of AUD $5,000
Under NSW casino cash-handling reforms, there is a AUD $5,000 daily cash limit for gaming play. The Star's 2025 announcement defers the reduction to AUD $1,000/day until 19 August 2027, and that deferral can be withdrawn during the period — so treat the current figure as the one to check, not a fixed rule.
⚠️ This is not the border rule. The AUD $5,000 figure is how much cash you may put into gaming play per day at The Star. Separately, Australian border rules require you to declare AUD $10,000 or more (or the foreign-currency equivalent) when carrying it into or out of the country. There is no maximum you may carry — the requirement is to declare it. Play is carded — you play through your Star Club card — and all tournament entries (including satellites) must be purchased using gaming chips, not credit cards or cash at the table.
Wire Transfer to The Star Sydney — Before You Arrive
For buy-ins above AUD $5,000 (or to avoid daily withdrawal logistics), the simplest method is a bank wire transfer before you fly.
⚠️ Join The Star Club first. The transfer reference is your Member ID and surname, so you cannot send funds correctly until you have a member number.
The account details are published on the official Funds Management Sheet at starpoker.com.au — they are not issued individually per guest. Take the details from that sheet only, never from an account number someone sends you.
Expect: a NAB account, personal bank accounts only (no Wise/Revolut/third-party), and several business days to clear.
